CHARLOTTE CELBRATES FREEDOM WITH FIREWORKS AND FAMILY FUN June 27, 2015

Fourth of July Fireworks burst over Charlotte, North Carolina's, Center City.

Charlotte is celebrating America’s independence in a spectacular way! Fourth of July celebrations will light up the Queen City at several locations convenient for families and friends.

WBT SkyShow will be held in Uptown at the BB&T Ballpark on July 4th. The pre-game fun begins at 2:00 at the SkyShow Street Party. Live music, rides food and fun will take over Mint Street to MLK Jr Blvd. Gates open at 5:00 pm and the crowds can enjoy a showdown between Team USA and Team Cuba. After the game Veterans and military personnel will be honored in a patriotic flag ceremony followed by fireworks.

Charlotte Symphony celebrates patriotism with a Star Spangled Celebration of America. All the patriotic favorites will be played, including “God Bless America”, “America the Beautiful” and much more! Fireworks will top off the celebration at Symphony Park in Southpark on July 3rd.

Carowinds offers an all-new Fireworks Extravaganza on July 4th.Enjoy all the amusement parks rides and swim in Boomerang Bay, then enjoy the fireworks at 10:00pm.

Indian Trail will be celebrating July 4th with a parade and celebration. Bring your blankets and picnic baskets to downtown Indian Trail and test your skills at the watermelon-eating contest!

The charming town of Waxhaw has a July 4th Beach Party with celebration, parade concessions and a 9:30 fireworks display in downtown.

The Charlotte Motor Speedway Bojangles Summer Shootout will be a roaring good time for the whole family on June 30th! Enjoy a Champ truck display and Bandero Racers from across the country battling the front stretch quarter-mile. There will be a HUGE fireworks display to end the evening.

The US White Water Center will offer extra fun at their fourth of July Celebration on July 3-4 with cornhole, music and 9:30 fireworks. Greensky Bluegrass Donovan will provide foot stomping music 90 minutes before the fireworks.

Water and fireworks will also be a great combination at the Lake Wylie Fireworks 9:15pm at Buster Boyd Bridge, N.C.-S.C. on July 4th.

Celebrate freedom throughout Charlotte with picnics, parades ball games and family fun! God Bless America!

CHARLOTTE IS THE PLACE TO CELEBRATE DAD! June 15, 2015

Charlotte is offering a diversified selection of Father’s Day destinations sure to please all amazing dads! Whether your dad is geek, glamorous, gladiator or gourmet the Queen City has a Father’s Day destination for you!

Dads that are king of the kitchen or gladiator of the grill will enjoy a culinary experience where he can practice and learn new culinary skills! Sur la table located in Southpark Mall offers cooking classes geared towards dads and families. On June 20th at 10:00 am sweets are on the table with a hands on presentation. At 2:30pm Dad can learn to Cut Like a Pro with important chef’s tools and basic knife skills. Date night, also on June 20th, starts at 6:30pm and will offer hands-on Sizzling Summer Grilling. Cooking With Dad offers family fun on June 21st at Sur la table! Ages 5 and older can join in the cooking fun with delicious results featuring quesadillas, grilled sliders and dessert!

The Southpark area also offers cooking classes for dad at Upstream in Phillips Place. The June 20th class is 10am-noon, Maki and Beyond- Sushi 102.

Uptown culinary fun on June 20th is with a spoon full of sugar! The Cocoa Lab at the Ritz Carlton offers a wonderful, one of a kind experience along side an award- winning chef! From 8am-noon dads can create Summer Fruit Classics including plum tarte tatin, almond peach cobbler and vanilla-scented quinoa salad.

The Levine Museum of the New South in Uptown will have a presentation of Conexiones: Exchanges Across Cultures. This exciting exhibition will be an exploration of Latino culture through food, music, dance and art. The first installment will be on June 21st at 2:30pm and will explore the vast array of Latin American food with chefs and home cooks from several regions! The presentation is free.

Sports dads have a lot to look forward to in Charlotte over the Father’s Day weekend! The active dad who is still a kid at heart can join in the fun at Adventure Landing Family Fun Entertainment Park in Pineville. Outdoor go carts, bumper boats a mini gold course and arcade are just part of the fun at this kid centric park! Open Sunday-Thursday 10am-10pm and Friday/Saturday 10am-midnight.

The U.S. Whitewater Center offers water sports that include kayaking, canoeing, whitewater rafting and paddle boarding. Mountain biking and running trails are open dawn to dusk and for those wanting a bird’s eye view, zip lining and canopy tours.

The Richard Petty Driving Experience is perfect for the thrill- seeking dads! Dads can ride shotgun or drive themselves 8 t 50 laps at up to 160mph at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Baseball dads can enjoy the warm summer evenings watching the Charlotte Knights take on the Indianapolis Indians at the BB&T Ballpark in Uptown Charlotte June 19th-21st.

If hitting that little white ball across green grass is your dad’s favorite past time, then Charlotte golf driving ranges will be just his cup of tee! Golf Village at 502 N Polk Street has been a favorite range for years of local golfers wanting some quick practice. The Golf Club at Ballantyne offers a quick respite for busy dads in this beautiful area of South Charlotte. The driving range is open from 7am until 6pm. Golf ball tokens can be purchased in the Golf Pro Shop. Each token offers approximately 35 balls.

Regent Park Golf Club, just minutes from Ballantyne in Fort Mill, S.C. offers a 3,000 square foot practice putting green and a 120 tees driving range. Plus, dad can fill up with less expensive gas while he’s there!

Carolina Lakes Golf Club is just south of Ballantyne off Hwy 521. They are beautifully situated in the popular Sun City retirement community. A popular, newer course, Carolina lakes has a grass tee driving range and practice area, including a large putting green.

Dads who listen to the music and enjoy a good laugh will be able to pull out the air guitar and chuckle in the Queen City over Father’s Day weekend! The Charlotte Symphony will have dads toe tapping to classical film scores on June 21st at Symphony Park.

For a more enclosed, air conditioned musical experience, families can take dad to Dirty Dancing at Belk Theater at Blumenthal Performing Center on June 18-21st!

Guitar: The Instrument That Rocked The World will be at Discovery Place in Uptown through September. this visually gorgeous presentation traces the guitar from its initial creation through present day.Over 60 amazing guitars are on display and will have collectors and guitarists alike in awe. Kids have many hands-on, interactive guitar displays to keep them entertained while dad is engrossed in music history!

Rock n roll will pulse at River Jam at the U.S. Whitewater Center. On June 20th, this free event 7-9pm will feature Dank, described as “rock n roll, punk and country” is for the hard-core-music dad!

Dads who enjoy a chuckle can yuck it up at Ovens Auditorium on June 19th. Weird Al Yankovic will have you laughing long after the show! At Ovens Auditorium,8:00pm.

If you envision your father enjoying the peace of a brilliant garden, then the beautiful Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden is perfect for him! On June 20th at 1:00pm dad can take an informative stroll through the garden with a professional horticulture staff member. In addition to the amazing flower and plants displays, over 100 sculptures are on exhibition.

Gardening dads will also enjoy Pike Nursery’s free presentation on Attracting Butterflies and Hummingbirds on June 20th at 9am. Located in Ballantyne at Torigdon Circle, this nursery offers personal service and a great variety of plants sure to satisfy dad’s green thumb!

CHARLOTTE AREA FARMERS MARKETS ARE FRESH AND LOCAL June 6, 2015

Charlotte area Farmer’s Markets are bursting with colorful, crisp produce! Local, organic, scrumptious and delicious are the tastes and sounds of a traditional Charlotte summer!

The Farmers Market at the Village at Robinson, 8410 Rea Road, offers fresh vegetables and other local delectables under the white tents you can spot from Rea Road! Local crafters, bakers, beekeepers and farmers offer their homespun creations and natural foods every Wednesday from 12-6pm.

Providence Produce Market is located on the corner of Providence and Ballantyne Commons Parkway. This small, easy in/easy out market is open Monday-Saturday 9-7pm and Sundays 10-7pm.

Meeting Street Market is a Ballantyne area quietly growing farmers market located at Elon Park, 11425 Ardrey Kell Road. Fresh fruits, vegetables and eggs. Every Tuesday, 4-7pm.

Piedmont Row Farmers Market in the Southpark area of Charlotte offers organic fruits that are all local; purchase knowing all produce comes within a 50-mile radius of Charlotte! Wednesdays 1-6pm.

Pecan Grove Farmer’s Market on the corner of Providence and Hemby Roads is beautifully situated amongst the pecan trees it bears in its name! Azaleas and other flowering plants are scattered amongst locally grown fruits and vegetables. Most of the plants and luscious edibles are grown on a local, 30-acre farm in the Matthews/Weddington area. The Market is open daily.

Matthews Community Farmers Market is located in the very heart of downtown Matthews. Just ten minutes from Charlotte, historically charming Matthews hosts one of the largest and most trusted farmers markets in the area. All produce and products are from local farmers including baked goods, dairy products vegetables, fruits, and plants. Wednesdays 10am-noon and Saturdays 7:15 am – noon.

Waxhaw is another small town just minutes from Ballantyne. On Price and North Church Street in downtown the Waxhaw Farmers Market boasts fresh produce from local farmers and artisan vendors. Features Cook Farms in Monroe, Dabnar Farm-a local, sustainable farm and Ivey Place just to name a few. Open Saturdays 9am-1.

Downtown Pineville Farmers Market offers local produce, flowers, herbs and artisan foods. Produce is seasonal and picked fresh. Stroll the privately owned stores and restaurants for some peaceful Saturday fun. Saturdays 10:00am-12:00.

If your daily travels in Charlotte have you venturing outside of the beautiful Southside and its local small towns; then you are still in luck! Charlotte has terrific farmers markets throughout the Queen City!

The Charlotte Regional Farmers Market is located at 1801 Yorkmont Road. Open Tuesdays through Saturday 8am-5 and Sundays 12pm-6. Fresh produce is just the beginning of your yummy adventure at this large farm stand! The market offers everything from grass fed beef to goat milk soap.

Kings Drive Farmers Market is located just outside Uptown at the corner of South Kings Drive and Morehead Street. Offering fresh fruits, vegetables and local flowers. Open Tuesday 6am-6pm, Friday 6am-8pm and Saturday 7am-3pm.

Elizabeth Avenue Farmers Market merged into the Plaza Midwood Farmers Market at 2007 Commonwealth Avenue. Fresh produce and vegetables are offered along with beef and pork from Big Oak Farm, eggs and Johnston Farm and honey from Bryan Fisher. Saturdays 10am-1.

Charlotte is mouth- watering, fresh and beautiful! Bite into summer with a taste of the South!
