First Night Charlotte – New Year’s Celebration in Uptown Charlotte! First Night Charlotte takes place on New Year’s Eve from 12 p.m. to midnight with First Night Kids from 12 to 5 p.m. First Night Charlotte has grown into one of the biggest and best known events in the Southeast to visit for New Year’s Eve. John Tosco’s 3rd Annual New Year’s Eve Variety Show on Monday, Dec 31, 2012 8:00p at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center Host John Tosco (founder of Tosco Music Party) returns to the McGlohon Theater with another family-friendly variety show in the spirit of The Ed Sullivan Show. Scheduled to run from 8 pm to 10 pm, this New Year’s Eve celebration will be filled with comedy, dance, music and much more.

For a wonderful New Year’s Eve, please be safe and call a cab (during the month of December, the uptown Epicenter will partner with the local ABC Board and three cab companies to provide complimentary rides within the 1-277 corridors through the “I’m Not Driving Impaired” initiative.); ride the bus or train(On New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2012, the Charlotte Area Transit System will operate extra LYNX Blue Line service in support of First Night activities. Buses and trains will operate according to their weekday service on that day, with the last departures from the Charlotte Transportation Center at 1:30 a.m. for select bus routes only, and for the LYNX Blue Line. On New Year’s Day, Tuesday, January 1, 2012, the Charlotte Area Transit System will operate buses and trains according to its Sunday schedule); or designate a driver.

Then, on weekends, from Friday thru Monday, the elves and Santa return from the North Pole to roll out the fun. Maybe you would like to support a small business or charity and want to buy a tree from a church.It’ll cost you more to do that, but you’re supporting a church and maybe a charity as well.At the Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church lot, for example, all proceeds go to CSS Pregnancy and Adoption Support Programs. The lot at St. Ann’s Church in Dilworth proceeds benefit seven organizations, including Holy Angels, Friendship Trays and Rachel’s Vineyard. St. Gabriel Catholic Church (Providence Road) also has a tree lot.

iCelebra! A Bilingual Holiday Concert for Children Presented by Queens University of Charlotte, December 15, 2012. Queens hosts a celebration of culture and music presented by Criss Cross Mangosauce, a company that offers bilingual (English/Spanish) products for children. Founded by two bicultural mothers, Criss Cross Mangosqauce joins a group of seven talented musicians to bring alive holiday songs and stories. This interactive performance engages kids and adults to move and to sing.

Latke Demonstration and Challenge Presented by Atherton Mill, 2104 South Blvd, on Friday, Dec. 7th, from 10 am until 1 pm, Chef Bill Averbach, well-known as the Pickleman will be demonstrating some of the numerous techniques and recipes used to make the traditional (and not so traditional) holiday treat called latkes; potato pancakes.

Speedway Christmas and the all new Boulevard of Lights is one of the largest holiday light shows in the region.
